Brilliant bluish violet. It is puce powder. It is soluble in benzene, slightly soluble in chloroform, o-chlorophenol, nitrobenzene, pyridine, tetrahydronaphthalene, methylbenzene and dimethylbenzene and insoluble in ethanol and acetone. In concentrated sulfuric acid it is green and becomes violet after dilution, then emerges brilliant red precipitate. Its alkaline reduction leuco body is blue and acid reduction leuco body is reddish violet.

Application: It is mainly used for the dyeing and printing of cotton, flax, man-made fiber and silk. It is also used for the dyeing of mucilage glue/cotton, vinylon/cotton blended fabrics and the two-bath topping of polyester cotton blended fabrics. It is suitable for the direct printing of fabrics and can dye deep blue and deep gray with vat blue and vat gray. It is also applied to make vat blue and can be made into organic pigment. It is also used as the coloring agent of plastics. Its chemical construction is same with C.I. pigment violet 31.
